I remember one level where I had to bounce off a wall using two portals while dodging lasers - it felt like pure magic when it clicked. The minimalist lab aesthetic works surprisingly well on mobile too. No fancy explosions or flashy effects, just clean lines and eerie silence. And GLaDOS? Still chillingly brilliant. Her dry sarcasm cuts through the tension every time she says “You’re doing fine… for a test subject.” It’s weird how much personality she packs into a few lines.

The not-so-good

It’s not perfect, though. The controls on touchscreens are… okay, but not great. Swiping to aim feels stiff, and precision matters a lot in later levels. You’ll end up tapping the screen a bunch just to line up a portal exactly right. Also, the game runs on older hardware, which means it’s low-res and has some frame drops if your phone isn’t mid-tier. And honestly? It’s just the first Portal. If you’re expecting Portal 2-level polish, story depth, or co-op puzzles, this won’t deliver. It’s a stripped-down version, meant more as a taste than a full meal.

If you’re into smart puzzles, don’t mind a bit of awkward touchscreen control, and want a free game that actually challenges your brain, then yes - Portal - Download for Android is worth the download. It’s not going to replace Portal 2 on Steam, but it’s a legit pick-up if you’re bored and craving something different. Just don’t expect high-end graphics or smooth gameplay. It’s a little rough around the edges, but the core idea? Still totally fresh.
