Volaris 2.0 for iPhone

So I was in Mexico last month and needed to book a quick return flight after changing plans, and I ended up using this app because my phone was acting up and I didn’t want to deal with the website. Turns out it’s actually… fine? Not amazing, but not terrible either. It’s the official Volaris app, so it only really matters if you’re flying with them - which is kind of the whole point.

The good stuff

The check-in flow is smooth. I scanned my ID right on the app, got my boarding pass in under a minute, and skipped the line entirely at the airport. That alone made my day. The app also remembers your payment details - which is a relief when you’re trying to book last minute and don’t want to re-enter your card every time. And the live flight updates? They actually showed me my gate change before the announcement came over the loudspeaker. Small win, but real.

The not-so-good

It’s pretty basic. No fancy extras like trip maps or baggage tracking. If you’re used to apps like Google Flights or even Southwest’s app, this feels like a step back. Also, it’s not optimized for iPhone users - yeah, the name says “for iPhone” but it’s an Android-only download. Weird branding choice. And honestly, the UI looks like it hasn’t been touched since 2018. But hey, it works. The main thing that bugs me is how little it does outside of booking and checking in. No itinerary sync, no push reminders unless something changes, and no way to save favorite routes beyond just booking them again.

Bottom line

If you’re flying with Volaris, this app is worth downloading - it’s free, it does what it needs to do, and the check-in feature is genuinely helpful. But if you’re not booked with them, skip it. There are way better travel apps out there for general use. This one’s niche, and that’s okay. Just don’t expect anything fancy. And yes, it’s called Volaris 2.0 for iPhone for Android - go figure.
